Build Your Own Brick BBQ Pit
These plans for brick BBQ pits are from "Today's Woman Barbecue Cook Book" published in 1954. There are several other pit plans in the book that I will add to the page later. These pits reference cast-iron fireplace units manufactured by The Majestic Co. in Huntington, Indiana. I'm not sure if this company is still in business but you could always fabricate your own from welded steel. Someone also sent us email about another source for parts: Vestal Manufacturing They make a complete outdoor fireplace model #OF-56. They also make two sizes of cast iron grates. Model # 16-G is 11 3/4" x 16 1/2" and Model # 24-G is 16 7/8" x 23 5/8". They also make a Dutch Oven Door Model # DO-12. There are plans for several other pits in this book that we will be adding to this page. Also, we recently got a copy of the Sunset BBQ Book from 1945 that has lots of additional plans. Look for some of those here as well. You can click on all the images on the following pages for a larger view. For a glimpse of a real homebuilt brick BBQ pit check out Dave Lineback's pit, nicknamed Wilber D. Hog. |
