IBCA Sanctioned Albuquerque - June 27 PDF Print E-mail

We competed in our first IBCA sanctioned competition in Albuquerque, NM on June 27. The contest was sponsored by the Faith Temple and they did an outstanding job taking good care of the cooks. This was their second annual event and 18 teams from as far away as Arkansas and Arizona participated. This was our second contest after a 5 year break and relocating to New Mexico. We had a great time socializing and getting to know some of the local teams. There are obviously some great cooks and formidable competition here in the Southwest. It is a lot of fun making new BBQ friends. Congratulations to Q and Sweet Peppers who took Grand Champion and Reserve.

Smokin' 4th BBQ Shootout - Durango, CO - July 4th PDF Print E-mail

We had a wonderful 4th of July at the 5th annual Smokin' 4th BBQ Shootout in Durango, CO. 29 teams gathered on the historic downtown Main Avenue to shoot it out for the best barbecue. Main Avenue was closed to traffic for the event. There were two stages providing live music as the crowds danced in the street into the night. The event was capped off with a spectacular fireworks display launched form the top of one of the mountains overlooking the town.

The Smoke Ring team took First Place in beans and ribs. Rhythm n Que from Albuquerque, NM was the Grand Champion and Burnin' Bob's Butts and Bones took Reserve.

We would like to thank Mark Simon and the Durango Kiwanis Club for organizing a great event and KCBS reps Merl and Carol for doing another fine job repping the contest.

Moos & Brews - Eagle, Colorado - July 25 PDF Print E-mail

It was a Rocky Mountain High as 18 teams gathered in Eagle, CO for the first annual Moos & Brews BBQ Contest. The event was part of the opening weekend of the Eagle County Fair and Rodeo. It paired barbecue with samplings from a huge selection of Colorado microbrews. The BBQ competition was quite popular with the attendees who were offered samples of competition barbecue from the teams. Arlie Bragg, and Eagle County, did a great job organizing the event. It is sure to become an annual happening. We were lucky enough to win First Place in the Pork category. Congratulations to Rhythm n' Que for winning Reserve and Wild Hogs for their Grand Championship.

It was a beautiful fall weekend in Florence, CO for the first annual Kick in the Butt BBQ competition. You never really know what to expect when attending a first year contest, but this event couldn't have run more smoothly. Cindy Cox and her team did an excellent job putting the event together. It ran more smoothly than many events we have been to that have been around for years. The musical entertainment lineup was also excellent providing a great musical background for the weekend.

27 teams showed up to prove that their barbecue is the best in the west. It was a good showing for a first year event, especially since Jack Daniel's was the following weekend and several of the teams in Florence were making the trip. The Smoke Ring placed 4th in Beef Brisket and came in 11th overall.

Burnin' Bob's Butts n Bones took top honors as Grand Champion. Parrothead Smokers took Reserve.
