I have Walmarts, Lowe's and Home Depot to check. Those are the only national chains that I know of that have charcoal around here. HD is a 45 min drive and I've tried calling them and can't reach anyone that knows the difference between lump charcoal and a lawn mower.
I was there a couple of weeks ago and they had 100% natural briquettes for $5.99/18lb bag. I think it was original charcoal co. _________________ Robin

| I just went to HD to pick up the rest of thier Rancher (Original Charcoal Co.) since they are not going to sell it here in MI anymore. $4.99 for 20 lb. bags, The best deal IMO. I know Gorden's food service has 20 lbs. of RO for 7 or 8 bucks if you have any of those nearby. |

I have seen Royal oak lump in every wal-mart I have ever visited, And also they have "real-Flavor" (Wal-mart branded product) which is re-packaged royal-oak.
I like both, but $6.00'ish for 10 pounds is a bit steep IMO, I have found lots of rocks and concrete in both the last few times I have used it though.
Run away from Kingsford charwood, it pops & sparks horribly to the point of coating your food with crunchy bits when trying to grill with it. the stuff could almost be considered a fire hazard in the dryer parts of the country.
Rancher Charcoal has got some great reviews, Nothing but char and a natural starch as a binder, no other additives like nitrates, Lime, Coal and all the other stuff the mainline briquette makers use to get it to burn right. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |
