I've been lurking on this site for about two years now and thought I'd say Thanks to you all for the great information, I have become an addict to smoked meat. I've always wanted a brick smoker of some sort, I designed this using the gathered knowledge from this site. I didn't want a smoker that was huge, enough for a few people, one that was fuel efficient and nice to look at. The chimney is behind, out of view. My last fire last week used only 8lb's of log after a good preheat with charcoal.
I love ABT's man!!!

Nice looking brick smoker... Congratulations!!! Send another photo or two sometime to let us see the sides and exhaust... How many racks are in your smoking chamber?
Again, nice looking smoker.. A brick smoker is on my "I want to build one of those some day, too" list... _________________ Dr. Mike

Absolutely beautiful work!!!
I am jealous!!
I have wanted something like that since I was a kid, My great uncle had a walk-in brick smokehouse on his farm that intrigued me forever.
I think that was the start of my addiction now that I think aboout it, I have used almost every material available to build smokers, next is brick!!
My favorites were my 100% wooden smokers, and they never rusted!! Who'd a thunk that? _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

The wood next to the smoker is Mesquite, localy abundant, I use the large chunk from the heart, no small stuff. I also use alot of Oak, the fires that ravaged So. Cal a few years ago made for some good oak and apple pickings, apple is the best though. I preheat with charcoal and put meat in only when the log is cooking. This pit has alot of thermal inertia and requires little wood after a good preheat.

Truly spectacular outdoor cooking set-up.
I am fond of the "old brick pits" they are what I grew up around with all the local BBQ joints. _________________ Big Tom

Yes, I too have to say that with all the pits I own....I am JEALOUS as well
I wish I lived in an area like you where I could have something like that. I have tried to get my brother in Vegas to build himself a nice outdoor kitchen...so far no luck. |

Very nice!
I know about the heat/outdoor cooking thing. At least where you are at it's a "dry" heat! Here, it's like a suana in the summer! _________________ BBQMAN

Where did you get those doors???
I spent a week trying to find somewhere where I could get doors(larger than what you have) to build a brick smoker.
Couldnt find anything so I ended up ordering a Spicewater.....now I am sorry. I would really have wanted a brick one. |

Not sure where you live Gotwood, but most any fab/welding shop can make custom steel doors of the size you need. I plan on a brick pit for my home in North Georgia someday, and will build the metal parts out of heavy stainless steel- I don't care for rust!
You should be happy with the Spicewine- they build a nice cooker! _________________ BBQMAN
