I was wondering about that. I saw it last week next to the Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Makers Mark sauces. _________________ I see smoke..Houston we have no problem ! |

If it's of the same "quality" as their beer...I'll pass.

Gotta agree with MichiganBill. We tried the Budweiser sauce (with beechwood - don't know if that's the same variety) but frankly, it was lame. Doesn't have a good taste out of the bottle, doesn't have a good taste post-cook.
Plenty of other store brands that are quite a bit better. My personal favorite store-bought is the Jack Daniels - BBQ sauce, not the steak sauce. Nothing wrong with the steak sauce, but I assume we're talking BBQ usage, not steak grilling.
Better yet, make your own - there are some fantastic recipes around. Check the site, or I'd also recommend recipes from the Smoke 'n Spice cookbook. _________________ ============================

I heard a rumor a long time ago that bud has a small amount of formaldehyde in it. |

Placebo - I've heard a lot on the subject of formaldehyde in beer (being a devoted lover of the brew) and have arrived at a couple of conclusions. First - the majority, the HUGE majority of it is simply rumor. I don't think commercial export beers ever contained it, although several Asian breweries (Singha for instance) were widely accused of using it. Having said that, I've also heard from several sources that some idiot home brewer some decades ago recommended adding a tiny amount of the chemical to "up" the bitterness (hoppy) factor, making a lager taste more like an ale, more full-bodied. Apparently, shortly after that, there were a few instances where some home brewers tried it, but learned rapidly that while any improvement to beer taste or clarity was negligible, they did see a greatly increased severity of hangovers. Go figure!
But unless the commercial breweries are lying, no commercial export beer has ever actually contained formaldehyde.
There are TONS of rumors about beer. Remember when Corona hit huge in the U.S. market? Shortly thereafter it was reported that the workers at the Mexican brewery were urinating in the batches that were destined for the U.S. market. There was also a rumor of rats found floating in the tanks. I strongly suspect that any time you see a new product threatening the existing sales of its competitors you'll also see rumors magically springing up to attack the new product. _________________ ============================

Thanks for the info there Smokinfunk! Much appreciated. I figured it was just that, a rumor. I do seem to recall though sometime ago in my hazy past reading the ingredients label on a bottle of Maddog 20/20, you know one step below Ripple , and I swear I remember reading formaldehyde as one of the ingredients. |

Having lived in Japan for a number of years, I can attest that some Asian labels do contain formaldehyde. I have drank plenty of it and it does have an interesting effect when drank in excess. First thing is you don’t really get a buzz like with alcohol. The problems is that formaldehyde is suppose to settle in the lower extremities. That may be why your legs don’t work after your 10th. beer! _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

I saw it today at Walgreens on clearance for 74 cents a bottle. Just couldn't say no, even after reading the posts. I am going to try to incorporate it into one of my recipes to cover it up. _________________ Low and slow that is the tempo!
