I recently salvaged some poplar from a neighbor's tree removal. Once it's seasoned, is poplar any good for cooking, or should I leave it for the fireplace? If it cooks well, how's the flavor?

properly seasoned poplar burns very fast, with little BTU potential.

if it is not completekly dry, it will give an odd sweet sappy taste becuase it is a very wet sappy wood when fresh cut.

I use it as kindling to start the wood stove becuase It will light with a single match and has enough heat to light my maple & oak. I have not tried cooking with it though.

Try some in a grill with hamburgers, You might like it.and please post your results.
