I have some birch trees on my property that I will be cutting down. Does anyone use birch for smoking? If so, do you remove the bark?Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

| Thanks for the link, I've seen the list on here before, I was interested in hearing about some experiences using birch wood. Lately I have been using alot of maple and apple, I'm curious how birch would compare to those woods. |

| I use birch when smokeing game birds or chicken. Its a very subtle favor that goes well with apple. I do leave the bark on. And I cut to chuncks on my band saw. But this is just my view try it for your self and remember that when it come to smoking if you (or the wife) like it thats whats best!!! Happy Qing. |

Those people in Illinois pay top-dollar for white birch with the bark still on. They will pay more for birch firewood as compared to hickory or oak, I think it is the way it looks compared to it's measly heat value.
I use the birch bark to light our woodstove, and sometimes for lighting charcoal, it produces an oily black smoke I do not think you would want on your food, So pull the bark if you decide to use it for cooking. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |
