Very nice!
It is a good idea to have a low maintenance smoker to use for any of the overnight stuff. _________________ Big Tom

yea, I am thinking this is going to work real well for butts and briskets.
Manual says it is NOT a 'set it and forget it' smoker but really it pretty much is...
I think they just say not for liability issues. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Hey Marv
How many lbs of pellets do yo go through per hour??
I've got a FEC500 and I'm thinking about getting aFEC100 to go with it for smaller loads. The 500 will go through 2 1/2- 3 lbs per hour depending on how cold it is outside. And if I'm running at a higher temp for chicken it will use even more, closer to 4 lbs or more.

Well, it is hard to say due to the fact I just got it and tonight was the first cook. I also didn't put in a certain amount, I just poured some in the hopper. From here on out, I will keep a tab (notes). _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Congrats on the purchase.
One the new controller style it uses less pellets, about 1/2 lb an hour depending on temp.
Looking forward to the report.
For the chicken smoke it on a lower temp then crank 'er up to finish the skin. Works for me. |

Hmm. Never saw one of those before. I dont know if that would be legal for us to use in competition. Please forgive me for this but what do you use if for? Catering? Personel use? I noticed that you have it inside and just vent it to the outside, that must be nice. |

Actually it IS legal in comps and has won 3 of the last major comps....ok, the guys USING it has won....
I will be using it for briskets, butts and personal use. I will not be taking it on catering jobs but a lot of users do.
Yes it is vented to the outside therefore has NO smoke in the building at all.
A lot of resturants use this same unit as well. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

The FEC's are legal because they burn wood pellets and use the electric as an igniter and for a blower fan for the burner.

I guess if you were REALLY intrested, you could contact www.cookshack.com directly and ask them yourself.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

of course...I just thought that I would ask on here...seems like everyone had no problems chiming in with the wrong answers...or tell me that it burns pellets and the cookshacks are electric...
I am sure that it has to do with older models being the FE-100 and maybe were made pre-cookshack and then the FEC-100 was made by cookshack and maybe has the new control board and stuff like that...
I guess there arent a lot of pellet folks on this board. |

That may be (not a lot of pellet users here). Again, you can go to cookshacks website and ask your questions there about pellet units of all types.
I don't know a lot about pellet units either, I was only intersted in the FEC-100 because I have been following that cooker for a number of years. I have read many good comments on it vs other pellet units.
Like we all know, what better advertising than 'word of mouth'? And actually talking/listening to people that own one. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

yeah I was searching their forum and it might just be used interchangeably...either way I am not that worried about it...certianly didnt feel like signing up for another forum just to ask that question...
they are certainly great cookers though and I dont think that I have ever heard 1 bad thing about them...atleast from their owners... |

I see alot of people from here on that forum though. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Hey Dawg,
The wrong answer???
Cookshack makes many different styles of cookers for many uses.
The FEC's are pellet burners. And the units with the old controllers were still called FEC's. They do not use the power to generate the heat to cook with. That is why they are legal for comps.
The cookshack cookers are electric. They do use the power to generate their heat, so they are not legal for comps.
The FEC's are Fast Eddie's by Cookshack.

FE100 -- Made by Fast Eddy
FEC100 -- Made by Cookshack (hence the C was added)
There are different variations in both. Some of FE's original one's really look different.
For the FEC, they started with the straight Traeger type auger. Then modified it to the "ramp" model for NSF ratings. Now they also have the IQ4 electronic controller which replaces the Traeger controller |
