Stopped at Costco today for few things, and surprise,
a whole pallet of Kirkland brand lump!!!
$7.99 for a 20 lb. bag. Theres no info on the bag as what
type of wood used, it only said "made in the USA".
Opened it up once home and was pleasantly surprised
to find some nice looking charcoal, plenty of medium
size pieces. (I had to look at some photos at the nakedwhiz
reviews to get an idea). This is definitely not any Cowboy scrap stuff!!!
Anyone else find this yet?
Curious to hear from anyone thats used it.
I'm gonna get a chimney going in a bit to grill
up some salmon later.
Any chance that Mr. Nakedwhiz has seen this yet?
I would love to read his review!!!

Peace all...Dave

not bad stuff. started up in the chimney with
no problems. hardly NO sparking at all!!! not like the
royal oak i normally use.
grilled up the salmon and over-cooked it, my bad!
i e-mailed costco asking who made it, but no answer yet.

anyone else find this yet?
check it out and let us know!
could be a good find!
probably gonna crank up the chargriller this
sat. and smoke some spares up.
i'll let everyone know how they turn out!

peace all...dave

I actually went into a new Costco today in Tustin, CA and I noticed that they have it in stock but it's 9.98 or something like that. I bought a bag of it, I hope it's good. So far this was the first Southern CA costco that stocked it as far as I know.

i was really happy with this lump. no popping or sparking
when starting in a chimney. nice smoky smell. i did do some spares
last week and used much less then the royal oak i've been using.
i did finally get a reply from costco ,they will not give out ANY info
about who makes it and the type of wood used.
yeah, i know about the price, it went up almost a dollar
since the last time i was there.
still, not to bad price!
now what to do with the 150 lbs. of royal oak i bought on sale
about a month ago Shocked

None of the costcos in my area have the lump wood. I called the one right down the street from my house and they made me feel like I didn`t know what I was talking about. Then they said they don`t see it in their system and that there was no way to see if any other stores have it. Good Times BBQ Cool

I bought a bag at my Temecula, CA (SoCal) Costco. Used it for some brisket and butt. I like it. Burns well and seems to have little dust or tiny pieces in the bottom. It's $9.50 a bag here.

Sorry Jake, can't help ya with a comparison to
wg weekend, never used it.
But I gotta say, very little chips and dust in the
bottom of the bag. My thinking is costco just puts
a whole pallet on the floor, with no re-stacking at all.
The bags don't get man-handled at all once at the store Very Happy

I am not sure if I care for it the one thing i did notice is that there was very little dust and flaking of ash getting on the food when adding more wood for heat. It seems to burn up too fast I keep having to add more lump every hour just to keep steady temp. The bag I baught from bbq galore seems to burn longer which I like but seems to ash alot when adding more lump wood. I might consider trying it again and Smoke Daddy its close too Dublin. Good Times BBQ Cool
