| I was just browsing through these forums as a non member looking to see what kind of smoker to buy. I have used a Brinkman kettle for some time and felt it was time to move up. After reading reviews and other thoughts, I purchased the Bar-B-Chef offset smoker package. Living in Norton, Ma. made the decision a little harder as the shipping was pretty pricy, but reading about the quality of this smoker, and the mods that were made at the factory made the decision for me. My question would be to every one would be what else does this beauty need to make it the best it can be. I will be putting tin pans on the bottom to catch any drippings. How is the heat across the grates? How much coal does this monster go through? All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and can't wait to go home after work to season and start cooking. Hopefully the Fridge is full....Any tips will be GREATLY appreciated. |

Hey Attleboro!
I was really Jonesing to make some BBQ on my new Bar-B-Chef and I must say I was not dissappointed. I made two beer can chickens, 4 racks of ribs and I even tried a Pulled Pork recipe from this forum (Alien BBQ)that uses Country Style Ribs to cut down the time. I used my own rub, but the times were the same. Everything came out awsome. I usually use a rotisserie on my gas grill to make whole chickens, but the smoked chickens were even more moist. Amazing. I will need to get some pictures in my future exploits, but I really am enjoying this new smoker as well as this forum. There is a ton of info here and the people seem great.
My only worry is that I am going to start to expand pant sizes at a geometric rate. Fathers days is going to be great. I am going to cook some nice grub for my dad. There shall be pictures this time around. I am also getting into mu first competition at the Beers and Brews fest in Lowell Ma this year. I am going to assist a regular entrant in the BBQ cookoff. He hasn't won as of yet, but I consider myself a good cook, so maybe I can add something. My family can't wait to go as they are always telling me that my BBQ is better than any restaurant. Its going to be such a blast. Oh well, off to the store for some ingredients for the next smoke. Take care everyone. |
