O.K. Harry your to blame for this one!!
I went to the web site, Since my other logo isn't really that good for a real catering company! And here is what Patrick came up with. took us several Emails, Mostly because I couldn't decide. But I am pleased with the finnished product. Tried to stay with a Red,White and Blue kinda theme!
Whatta think?

I like it, very family oriented and non-offensive. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down!

I went to the Gov web site today! Just googled Trade mark protection
And looks like it will take a little while to wade through the info. But at another web site it was 549.00 to protect it.Lawyers are somewhere around 1500.00 for the same stuff. But you gotta know what you are doing I guess.
The interesting thing I noted on the government site was that you can use (_TM_) On your stuff with no legal penalty. It discurages others from using your stuff. Now once you are aproved then you can use (_R_) meaning you are registerd with the Gov. and have a trademark and copyright protection. Me I think I will use the TM for now and keep the documentation proving when I developed it. And after I make the first Billion I'll worry about the R _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, it is always the Judges fault!

Realistically, it shouldn't cost much more than $300 to protect it. That's the application fee directly to the trademark office. Of course, that depends on perfect conditions. I only know this because I'm working on trademarking about 3 different names and that includes picking up a trademark of someone who has a similar name that didn't trademark their name (not to steal their name but to hedge against their filing against my registered trademark later...it's a live-and-let-live situation).
Given the plate charges for labels, etc., it makes sense to spend the $300 to reserve your trademark early instead of paying litigation costs to defend it later. Kinda like buying insurance that protects you from later litigation. |

Ok, the actual filing fee is $30.00
and on another thread someone recommended
"legal zoom dot com"
and they are less then $200.00 to do all the paperwork, and file. (if I remember right)
they mentioned by regular attorney means of about $700.00
I should ask Patrick to tactfully add the "TM" in the art where it will not detract from his excellent work.
I am surprised he didn't sign his work. or maybe he did and i am not seeing it yet! _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

I am also thinking on the apparel marketing side of things too. hey if they don't like my "Q" , I still got shirts to fall back on!

The merchandise option could be a big hit at a festival or a party. WE have had people want to purchase our team t-shirts and they are very simple single color screen printed shirts. I don't sell the shirts, though.
I may look into Patrick to help me with a catchy logo for the smoker peddlin' business. _________________ Big Tom
