We (wife and I) leave for Vegas for 5 days on Thrus. Returning on the 15th...
THEN on the 18th we start a LONG string of parties (jobs). 18th, 19th, 20th, (off 21st) 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th (off the 27th) then finish up this string on the 28th...just booked that one tonight..That is 9 jobs in 11 days!! Not my all time best (11 in 9 days) but close.. Maybe recoupe some of the change we will 'probably' lose in Vegas.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Flying or driving?
If you're flying why don't you have a portable rig you can take on as hand luggage yet?
If driving you can always tow a rig that you can turn to for some... nearly instant funds while you're there.
Just a thought or three! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Yes, but you never know when you might need to put together a catering gig...for a little extra spending money! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

BBQMAN is correct.. VACATION ONLY for my stay in Vegas....and yes flying.
A question is though...We plan to each take a suit case (mine will include a brisket and 1 slab of ribs for my bro). Are we only allowed ONE carry on each??? Or can I take a small suit case AND my laptop?...Might wanna stay in contact with my 'forum buddies'...never know.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Last time I flew with a laptop, they didn't seperate my carryon that was over my shoulder, (not a pork shoulder I was carrying), and the laptop was in my hand, when asked to put my carryon in the locker, I did so but I kept my laptop bag, (and laptop), on my lap. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

"I GOT PEOPLE"....my wife and I will be doing ALL of these ourselves...Well I MIGHT let her have the weekend off and take my son-in-law...I am sure he won't turn down $100 bucks a day extra income.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

For sure would have been a blast to hook up with you...My brother and his wife LIKE barbecue but are not as PASIONATE about it as I am...
That being said...we JUST (This last Sunday) booked rooms in Reno at the SAME hotel where the big BBQ contest will be going on over Labor Day weekend.. My brother (from Vegas) his wife and my sister (from So Ore) and her hubby will all meet there on Friday (Aug 31) and leave Monday Sept 3rd.
I have already made plans to hook up with Gordon of Gordon's BBQ while there.. He mentioned something about haveing A beer.. Yeah right....A beer... _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Marv, how can you do so many back to back jobs and do them on site? Are they all BBQ or most of them just simple menus? _________________ Alex

Marv,
You can take your laptop and a small suitcase as a carry on. _________________ Mike

ALL barbecues 100%...and yes it DOES take its toll by the end of it. I just grin and bear it and smile all the way to the bank...I guess that gets me through it..
I don't have room even in my comercial fridge and freezer to hold that many events goods so we have to shop for a few events at a time. Sometimes after we get done with one event, we are going shopping for the next few.
I only have basically 3 places I shop so that makes it much easier and one of them is JUST for chicken (wholesaler) and I pick that up the day before each event. I call ahead with order and just have to pick up when needed. One is a grocery wholesaler (smart & final) and the third is Costco. I go in with lists ands get my stuff and get out. All total, probably 3 hours out of my day to do all my shopping. So the more parties I can shop for at one time...the better.
Also during my 'down time' I clean BBQ before each event and wash truck..I USED to take my truck through drive through car wash but since I put the lift and big tires on it....no longer fits... AND by the end of an event I am CUSSING that decision to put lift on the darn thing in the first place.. Sure gets to be a LONG streach getting in that thing
I take pride in my equipment and vehicles and show up at each event as if it was my first...bright and shinny.
I hope this explains HOW I can do so many events in a row...Just 'grin and bear it' and look forward to Nov when I can relax again.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Marv does have an advantage over us partimers in that this is his regular job. I am struggling to find time after my work shift to get things together to haul into the MIM championship this Saturday, we will then set up camp on Wednesday for the rest of the weekend.
I can empathize with you on the truck washing I have the same ritual prior to a contest of cater...wash the 30' gooseneck cooking trailer and the crew cab F250 4x4; lately I have also had to clean up an additional cooking rig with the Stump's custom GF Hog cooker trailer.
I then usually get rained on in route _________________ Big Tom

Great showing on the schedule Marv! I do basically the same thing from Jan-April they stack up like crazy. Multi-tasking and good organizational skills are a must in this business!
Glad I don't have that lift kit on my own F250, it's plenty high off the ground stock!
Now that things have slowed up a bit, I can start on the "honey do" list that has been piling up!
Have a great time in Reno- don't spend all your loot in one place! _________________ BBQMAN

Marv, we know you do this for a living, and OBVIOUSLY you must have fantastic product and service, or you wouldn't stay so busy!
As mentioned in the past we only handle catering and public events as a sideline, not as a primary source of income. I mentioned your schedule to my son, whose BBQ business this is, and you could see dollar signs. My wife overheard the conversation (she does sides on smaller deals) and she said ‘you get that busy you can just scratch my free help off of your list’! There went the economics!
