Thanks StarandStripes for understanding I am not trying to be a nay sayer, just trying to tell it as I have seen it in the past, and will probably see it in the future.
I would like to encourage anyone who feels they are in a position to take on a contract like that to do so, but I do want to warn folks that it doesn't always pay as planned, and if you need that payment to keep going day by day, then you are risking a lot on that one spin of the wheel.
Saying that of cause, if I could just get one $25,000 contract from the government every 2 months, I would be $100,000 + better off at the end of the year, (after taxes)! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Adolpho,
there is no harm in getting the DUNS number, it does not force you to cook for them, it just gives you that ability to be a provider if you see a party you would want to take.
I do not ever see anything listed in my area, but I applied for the number in that slim chance that something might come up.
I feel it is better to be ready in case you ever need it, then to have a golden goose honking at you, and you can't grab it because you are not listed as a registered provider of services.
I also agree with BBQMAN, a date is already filled, Not that you do not have the ability to handle it.
Look at one of Marv's tricks; he has put a number "8" on his truck so people think he is a bigger operation than what he is. (Wow, 8 trucks !) If I saw a business truck numberd like that I would get the idea they are a large company with many employees. and larger companies are always cnsidered more stable and reliable than 1 single guy by most people.
That is one of the reasons I put the "Inc" on my cards and in all my correspondence.
I also ue the word "WE" instead of "I" in all of my communications too. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

After you get your DUNS register with the CCR immediately. This can be a real pain but without it you cannot do business with the US gov't. You also have to update your registry every year...it really is no big deal.
You guys keep checking. Every state and territory has a NG armory and every state is sending folks overseas. There's no telling when one of them will want some BBQ to welcome home the troops. But, if it's NG then that's the state...not the Feds.
When I read the stuff I saw in Louisiana I immediately thought of BBQMAN and his mobile kitchen. If I had one of those I would have bid on it without a doubt. |
