Thanks to input from some of my fellow catering cadre', we added Paypal to our website a few month's ago.
I booked a Memorial weekend pig roast for a client with more money than time, and the CC payment worked for them.
Nice to know the money is already in the bank! _________________ BBQMAN

Good to hear.
I've also added the paypal credit card option for my smoker sales. This sounded like a convient method for me since I have low volume in card buisness now. If it picks up I will look at other processing means. We did loose some catering work a couple of years ago because the client had to use a corporate credit card for the expenses. We are better prepared now. _________________ Big Tom

I guess Pay-pal is always an option if i ever need it.
Any chargebacks yet?? be careful!!
so, I have had a valid paypal acct. for 5 years, is it easy to set it up for credit cards?? how long does it take to set up?
And how long before you can transfer ithe card payment into cash into your linked account? same as a normal funds transfer??
I have a "pay-pal & Ebay only" checking acct. at my bank for special reasons. I know paypal fraud is almost non-existent, but I still have that account seperate from all the others. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

I am still getting all the kinks ironed out of my paypal account. I was able to start invoicing and recieving money right away.
Because of the amount of the first transaction (Stump's GF223 + shipping) the paypal folks went into red alert mode on my new account until I get all the verification stuff worked through. I understand the scrutiny when invoices in the thousands of dollars start passing through a new account.
Once all the restrictions are cleared I am supposed to be able to do as I please with my available balance: into cash, checking account, spend on ebay, etc. The fees do add up on big ticket items, but right now this is not a bad option to offer for customers. _________________ Big Tom

I thought that too until two weeks ago when someone hacked into my PayPal account and racked up $1050.00 in purchases overnight, and I even had a 14 character password! Setting up a separate bank account just for PayPal use is a good idea - but you still need to keep a very close eye on it. Make sure you have a long, hard to crack password. PayPal was really good about things when I disputed the charges, but I was still without my money for over a week. |

Way to go BBQMAN!
Sorry to hear about the hacking into Paypal. Bogus emails is where they get your password. It looks like a real email from paypal. You click on the hotlink to fix whatever problem they claim you have with your account and once you log into their system they got you.
Just remember, paypal will never have you do a hotlink from an email. You should always log in from their url site. _________________ "Tag line? We don't need no stinkin' tag line!"

Another trick for protecting yourself from spoof e-mails;
if you use outlook express, when the e-mail is open, click on properties and it will show the full IP header from the original sender.
and some of these people that send spoof mail even have their full real name in there.
if you suspect any spoof mail forward it in it's entirety to Spoof@paypal.com , they will respond within 24 hours to let you know if it is real or fake.
I keep less than $20.00 in pay-pal online, and a $10.00 balance in the linked account at the bank. If I make a purchase I do a funds transfer from another account to the "Pay-Pal/eBay Only" bank account.
My fear with using paypal is to collect payments and chargebacks, the buyer could say he didn;t get the merchandise, and pay-pal grabs all your money until your are able to prove that the customer got the product!
Kinda like proving your innocence, it can be tough!
It is great for buyers, but not so great for honest sellers.that is another reason I keep so little in that bank account. and I have a debit card linked, no credit card linked to pay-pal. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

I do a fair amount of trade through ebay and paypal, and I have done since 2002, I wasn't bothered about the risk of charge backs as I know I shipped everything.
Then early in 2003 I had a charge back, and since then I shipped inside the country with usps tracking confirmation, the best 55 cents you are ever going to pay.
I have had two charge backs since, but each time I produced the tracking details the charge backs only lasted till I informed them and they checked, 24 - 48 hours. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

In my case, I'm not generally worried about charge-backs. We are providing a service as opposed to goods that could get lost or stolen off someone's front porch after delivery. Our client(s) would have to prove breech of contract (which will never happen) to substantiate any claim.
Paypal has a great reputation for a reason, and it works for me both privately and proffesionally at this point. _________________ BBQMAN

if I have no other choice but to take payment by credit card, I will use Pay-Pal also.
BBQMAN's confidence in Pay-Pal has me feeling a little better about it. But the only problem is that Pay-Pal is much better at protecting the person that paid, instead of the person providing the merchandise or service.
I will need to slide over to their site and I guess I should get it set up now for recieving credit card payments instead of waiting until I need it.
What do you guys think, use my account that I have been using (the special seperate acount) or should I link the new business account over to the Pay-Pal credit card payment deal?
I am thinking that I should keep it the way it is, and transfer from that account to my business account when the money is recieved. This way I am not opening up my business account (which will hold millions!! ) to possible fraudulent actions.
Or do I need to set up a whole different account with Pay-Pal for the side of things business now.
I hate dealing with the financials side of things, that is why I have Bobbie & the accountant handle all that for me. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Good question for your accountant I would say!
As a S.Corporation all my funds are deposited into the business account, then dispersed from there.
You may be able to use the "dummy" account, then transfer directly to the business account. I truly don't know what the rules are on that, and they may vary state to state.
I do know that funds deposited into your business account (as an s.corp.) have protection from the type of seizure that Steve Bates went through recently, as well as some other types of legal action I.E. if you are being sued.
As a side note: I really don't have complete confidence in Paypal or any other organization handling my own millions! Always best to err on the side of caution when possible................ _________________ BBQMAN

I got this today, it is a scam so they can access your account and wipe you out. I logged on through the regular url page and my account wasn't locked.

Never respond to any of those e-mails. Log in directly to Paypal, then use your password to access your account.
Paypal, your bank, CC companies etc. will never send you a e-mail requesting private info. _________________ BBQMAN
