This probably seems elementary to most, but I am wondering what the best way to get a good fire going in my cooker. I have built the Big Baby that you see the plans for on this site.
I plan on using wood to start and see how that goes and then possibly supplementing it with some charcoal. (Cleveland Charcoal and Humphrey are each only about 1 1/2 from my home.)
I saw some one made a propane starter from a piece of black pipe and a regulator. That seems interesting but is there a simpler & easier way?
Also is it ok to cut up little pieces of pine lumber for kindling?

I'd start w/ a lit chimney of charcoal, and then add wood to it to get to temp. _________________ Mike

I would never use pine. It is not a good wood to smoke with as it is a resinous wood. I would not even use it for kindling.
Take care,
