Twice a year our town asks volunteers to help 'clean up' our downtown area. When we first got involved, the downtown Assoc actually PAID us to be there. Then they lost their sponsor so I said I would donate the food and my time..that has been 6 years ago. We do this in the spring (April) and fall (Sept). When I started there were only about 50 volunteers but since I started doing the cooking for this event...It has grown to over 170...Man what people won't do for a FREE meal...This year we did chicken pcs and potato salad.
The Army base (30 miles north) sent 70 which was real good. This first pic is some of them..
My wife said this pic looks like we are feeding at the local PRISON as the Army guys were all wearing the same kind of jackets...
Checking the temp of the last rack or chicken to come off..I had all three racks full on each side of my smoker..We cooked 200 pcs total.
The Army got hungry early...Seems there were more of them than any other but that is only because they swarmed us first..

Kickasss Marv, I will be doing a free lunch for our local Senior Center in June.
I want to give something back to the community and I figured Seniors dont have or get much. Needless to say, Ive been told they are very excited and looking forward to it...I cant wait... |

Glad you mentioned the senior center Gordon, I catered a party at our local community center a couple of weeks ago and our senior center is right next door to them. The head gal came out and during our chat, she said she would GLADY accept 'any and all' left over food we can give them.
I was having trouble finding a place to accept them..no more worry.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |
