pARTYCOOKER...I too have learned this lesson the hard way and here is what I NOW do.
IF I give them a 'special' price (that is different than my reg menu price) I say this price is ONLY good for the group size you have just told me. IF your group size changes for ANY reason, we will have to negotiate a NEW price.
This has taken care of the problem. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Yeah I did. But it was all verbal and months prior.
I could have stood my ground and been more firm
but I started to sniff the real side to this person after the third call
and decided that the complaints for such a small gig didn't warrant
someone starting nasty rumors about our business.
I know better now though I'll just put a smile on my face show up perform it, suck it up, and move on. |

Jason, take a good look at Marv's contract. I ammended it a bit to suit my needs, but basically went with his ideas.
As I get busier, I run into more of these "problem" types of clients. I guess the bigger the apple barrell, the more chance for rotten apples!
You are also right, bad word-of-mouth (even if it is not of your doing) is never a good thing! _________________ BBQMAN

I got the day off (kinda!). Doing some mods to my firebox, and sitting here playing on the 'puter at lunch time! _________________ BBQMAN

Yea, I got the day off (sort of) too. Party yesterday, one tomorrow and one sat. But today I have to shop for rest of week's events.
Also today we are going to my son's house (2 hr drive each way) to see our new grandauther (born Tues).
Then tomorrow my sister and hubby will be here for the weekend. Have not seen them in 2 years.. So guess what....BBQ,BBQ,BBQ ALL WEEKEND Except for Fri night, taking them out to a new Japanase steak house that just opened.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

Tell the $500 lady to buy 2 whole pigs and dig a pit in the back yard ? For $75.00 you will come to their house do a one hour consultation one how to cook the pig and pick up the check and have them sign a release that you are only a consultant and not a cook!

Inexpensive Catering for 100 in L.A area (Hollywood theme party)
My friends and I are having a big 30th bday party and have a budget of about $500 or less for food (including cake but we might just get a cheapie cake). Any ideas or places to suggest with inexpensive catering? Initially thought of a taco truck but since we are having a Hollywood theme party that might not fit too well with the theme....However, that is the only thing I can think of for about 5 dollars a head...HELP! Thanks

Was doing some "catch-up" reading on a couple of sites. Found this request on Chowhound (LA area). Thought it was appropriate to this discussion. OK, maybe a little late... |

Yeah buddy, but this was a good one!
I'm thinking that even the taco wagon shizzle special on wheels won't come in at $5.00 either...........................here's your taco and soda, have a nice day! _________________ BBQMAN
