When using a charcoal basket, what is the correct way to refill? Do you use lit or unlit charcoal?
Seems a bitter smell when you add unlit coals, but does this affect the meat?
Thanks

| fill your basket with unlit halfway and have a chimeny going when lit pour on unlit this should give you a few good hours of burn time and if you need to add always add lit coal hope this helps! |

If Im adding charcoal to a already lit basket full I either only add lump( lit or unlit) or a chimney full of lit briquettes. _________________ Electricity can be dangerous. I agree with wnkt, If adding unlit coals I only use lump. If using briquettes I will preburn them before adding. _________________ Big Tom

When refilling my basket I do the following:
remove the basket from the firebox
pour the burning coals into a 2 1/2 gal. galvanized bucket
refill the basket with unlit charcoal (lump or briquettes)
put the basket back in the firebox
pour the burning coals on the unlit charcoal (just as you would starting up with the minion method) _________________ Screw the whales, save the Cowboy. |
