Hi,

I've been snooping around here for a couple weeks, and you guys seem to know your stuff. I'm looking to build a first smoker or 2, and I've seen several mentions of getting steel drums from juice places and bekeries. I'm assuming these are 55-gallon drums; anybody have a place to pick up larger drums on the cheap, or is 55 the standard?

Thanks for the help!!!!

Mark

Don't hold me to it, but I think 55's and 30's are the standard size.

I have; that's why I asked. If there's a post mentioning bigger barrels by size and where they got them, I haven't seen it.

Try posting an ad on craigslist.org - it's free. That place can be a gold mine if you live near any metro area (or not looking for anything in particular). I live in KC and I thought about making a barrel smoker, so I placed a wanted ad for food quality barrels and I received a few responses willing to sell for $8-10 a piece.

55 seems to be a good size. it all depends on what you use out of them. and how you try to stack them. im a newbie too but this might help you a little bit. i dont know though

Hey thats not a bad Idea. I found some on ebay for 40$ shipped I was willing to purchase but I should try that. I have a wsm but my family and I just got a cabin in a near by forest and I would like to build a small vertical smoker with 1 grate to leave up there.

Ill give that a try.
