When ya buy chunks for your WSM or other smokers that use chunks where do you all order (internet orders) it from?
I`ve tried the BBQ pellets in a pouch thing and not too tickled with that, usually order from ed at gas smoker dot com... hickory, pecan, peach chunks for $1.00 a lb. If i order 30lb or more shipping is free.
Any other ideas? |

Jeff,
We have a very good BBQ store here in Lubbock called the Outdoor Chef.
They have a nice selection of woods available in 2lb up to 40lb bags. I'm not sure if you can order online but you can visit their site and find all the contact info.

I can pick up 20# bags of pecan, hickory, or mesquite at the grocery store (IGA) in Lubbock Texas for $8 when ever I make a trip. _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

Jeff, Can't you get wood by the cord in Nebraska?
You may have to cull through it, separating cooking wood from fireplace wood, but what other option do you have? I would think learning to cook with oak wouldn't be that big of a stretch.
Of course, its always easier to have someone do the job. I'm just throwing out an idea.

What i can get buy the cord or scrounge up from locals is apple, cherry, wild plum, crab apple, oak of some sort, river hickory?, ash, cottonwood, mulberry, lilac.
Mark just looking for the stuff like pecan or good hickory (not the river hickory we have here) pear, peach, apricot, almond, birch, grape, grapefruit, lemon, sugar maple, nectarine, orange to name a few that i cant get any or much of that i could order on-line by the chunk and give it a try without paying up to $3.00 a pound.
There are alot of place to order wood, just looking for more that i`m not aware of. |

Don't forget Hawiian Guava wood!
I picked up my Hickory chunks from Wally World. I found Pecan chunk at Academy in Nashville, TN when I was down there for business. Mesquite chunk is everywhere around here. Are there any wineries in NE? I know there are a couple in SD and IA. I'd call a "local" winery for the trimmings of their grapevines at the end of a season. _________________ My highly tweaked Char-Griller Smokin' Pro died many years ago... my Weber Kettle gave us 20 years of great food...
