There are different variations in both. Some of FE's original one's really look different.
For the FEC, they started with the straight Traeger type auger. Then modified it to the "ramp" model for NSF ratings. Now they also have the IQ4 electronic controller which replaces the Traeger controller |
Thanks for that explaination...I did not know that and I OWN one...
I just know I love it and so far (only had 2 weeks) has made MY live way easier.. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

The wrong answer???
Cookshack makes many different styles of cookers for many uses.
The FEC's are pellet burners. And the units with the old controllers were still called FEC's. They do not use the power to generate the heat to cook with. That is why they are legal for comps.
The cookshack cookers are electric. They do use the power to generate their heat, so they are not legal for comps.
The FEC's are Fast Eddie's by Cookshack.

well that is all well and good but doesnt even come anywhere close to answering my question about the difference between a FE-100 and an FEC-100 |

Most of the comps in our parts will not allow pellet smokers. I know LSBS won't. Of the two IBCA events I've been to there have not been one. But I'm not sure if IBCA allows them and Texans have not caught on. _________________ "Tag line? We don't need no stinkin' tag line!"

Not sure why we're talking comps, but IBCA allows them. Don't know why others don't unless they just scared of them. Especially if they allow guru's, stoker's, etc.
Dawg, what do you want to know? Are you looking at an old one. They basically the same, the differences aren't enough to worry about. |

I guess if you were REALLY intrested, you could contact www.cookshack.com directly and ask them yourself.. |
of course...I just thought that I would ask on here...seems like everyone had no problems chiming in with the wrong answers...or tell me that it burns pellets and the cookshacks are electric...
I am sure that it has to do with older models being the FE-100 and maybe were made pre-cookshack and then the FEC-100 was made by cookshack and maybe has the new control board and stuff like that...
I guess there arent a lot of pellet folks on this board. |
SmokinOkie, just confirmed that the FE100 and the FEC100 both use wod pellets. My comment was toward your comment that the units didn't burn pellets. |

I would LOVE to but I never did find out where it was or when. Also, from Donna's post, it was filling up FAST and that was awhile back so I just 'assumed' it would be full already. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

I've had mine for about 4 months now. I love it. Put your butts and or brisket on and go grab some shut-eye.
I don't use the automatic on mine, but I did get the optional probe. So it will cook to internal of XXX and go to a hold mode of XXX.
I have never checked pellet consumption, but I would guess about 1 pound per hour, cooking at 225-250.
The only problem that I have had is that the fire wants to go out when cooking at low temps (2 stage cooks). It is installed inside and vented through the roof.
For more info jump over to the Cookshack Forum and check out all of the FEC cookers.

I have been looking at the CookShack forum and the common complaint seems to be smoke ring or smoke flavor. |

If you do a two stage cook you won't have any problems with flavor or ring.
On briskets and butts, I start them at 180 for two or three hours and then let it go automatically to the hold at 250 to finish. I also take them out of the fridge straight to the cooker.
I admit that it won't have the same flavor or ring as a stick burner, but it is darned close. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411
