Hi All,

Looking for some feedback and assistance.

I have been told by my health department that I cannot operate a porch trailer as a daily food truck operation.

they are stating that California state law requires all food cooking equipment to be installed INSIDE and under a type 1 exhaust hood.

have anyone run into this before either within CA or in another state?

My option is to operate a fully enclosed trailer, with the smoker (OH CTO) under a hood. I would prefer to have the smoker on the porch, but thus far I am being told NO.

They say I can only operate a smoker on a hood at a temporary event, not on a daily basis.

Thanks for any input and assistance.

Pete

You would think being under a roof would be there main concern.

Unfortunately not. I have done some more research, and since my OP, it looks like the only way is to use a through the wall smoker, thus the smoker opens into the enclosed kitchen.

I hate California!

Have you looked into screening in the porch portion? I am not from Cali, but do know in some states this constitutes "inside". BBQ Man Mike did this to his in Fl. to satisfy them from what I recall.

I asked about "screening" and they said NO. Had to be fully enclosed, and the smoker has to be under a type 1 hood.

I think I am still going to build a porch trailer, but put a CTO and a 4 burner range under a hood inside the smoker.

I will use the porch for storage and other items, and if needed, I can install a temp grill or smoker for "special events"

I'm glad Florida did not put me thru all that. It adds a whole lot of $$$$ to the cost of your trailer. Florida also stopped making us screen the back porch in
