Hi all, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on lone star Grillz smokers. In particular the LSG 24''x36''
http://www.lonestargrillz.com/reviews.html
have you heard any issues with them?
Also I was looking at their charcoal basket as an option and they said in one of there videos that it holds about 40lbs of charcoal and last about 8 hrs. Is this about average in fuel consumption with briquette in offset smokers? Im assuming kingsford (although I use stumps and have gotten better cook times out of that in current smoker).
Basically IM looking for a smoker that can be used to grill and also take water for a wet smoke. So far this has seemed to be the most economical and best option I have found. |

They are not bad cookers I know some folks on other forums that have them and like them. I watched the video and got a chuckle out of the guy talking about exhaust placement. News flash it is easier to mount where they do as apposed to cut the opening on the cookers radius you will also get just as much smoke up high as you do at their level. Not sure about the water option either. Your meat will create all the moisture in the chamber that you will need. The bottom line is they are well built and they work. There is also a lot of builders out there that far surpass this cooker but for the price range in my opinion it is a good cooker. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

yeah im not so concerned as to where the smoke stack is located or the water option. if i want water i will put it in a pan some where but only if needed. My main concern was quality and am i getting the most bang for my buck.
It deffinately fits my needs and the price is doable. Albight it may not be till next summer since I just had to drop 2grand on my car last weekend lol.
K.a.m I would be interested in seeing who you might recommend with similar kind of builds. I have looked at Gator Pits, Yoder, Meadowcreek, and jambo. Any others you might suggest? |

As Maniac mentioned Shirley Fabrication builds a top notch cooker. A 24" x 36" with tuning plates would be around 1200.00. The lead time on the cooker is about 6 weeks. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

What would be the distinguishing factors that would cause a cooker from LoneStar Grillz being merely a "good" cooker to that of a "top notch" cooker from Shirley Fabrication? Both being a 24" x 36" horizontal with tuning plates.
Thanks. |

In my opinion the Craftsmanship and material is second to none on a Shirley cooker. As do others they build cookers that simply work. As I said the Lone star is a good cooker for the price and there are other company's that just out build them but cost more. Shirley's cooker comes in at a lesser price and is in my opinion a better built cooker. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.
