I was reading a post on another bbq site and a guy on there recommended installing an upper air intake on the end of the FB to help pull air across the top of the basket, in addition to the lower intakes. Anybody ever try this? He said it helped overall air flow through the smoker and increased efficiency.

wango most boilers I work on have the air under the fire I'm not saying it won't work just don't think you need it in a smoker. he also had turning vains on the end of the chamber. Our duct people put them in all their big ducts, again not saying it is a bad thing just not really needed. JM3C

It is not needed but as with any modification it will work after some playing with it. My Good Friend Bruno994 added one to his reverse flow and it works well for him.
