After having many smokers, I finally decided to do an Ugly Drum Smoker. I want to thank all of those that have posted up information as I did a ton of research. I found a local drum company that had exaclty what I wanted for cheap so I bought it.

Used the weed burner to burn off the paint and make sure everything was good.

Put in 2 grates with adjustability as well as made the charcoal basket out of expanded metal like some of the plans without welding.

Used a hi-temp primer after cleaning the drum.

Took some metal, cut it in the shape of a football and used a primer that was just about brown that I had laying around. I then bent it to the curve of the drum, and have it sitting about 1/4" off the drum.

Here is the finished product. Hopefully the smoker will out perform my Redskins.

Putting the casters on tonight and seasoning tomorrow.

Looks great! I'm sure she'll do an awesome job for you. If she can't beat the Redskins, I'll bet she can for sure beat my Lions Sad

Your color pattern is all wrong. You should've painted it blue with silver trim and a big silver star on it. j/k nice looking drum.

lol, I can make one of those as well....and then crush it with the bulldozer. Very Happy

FYI, the temp control with the cyberque wifi is unreal. 1/3 charcoal to test and season, and then the second night did an abt run. Once it got to temp, never varied more than 7 degrees and that without any difuser or water pan. I am impressed.

That UDS looks great! Question about the shelf bars. Are they the galvanized from HD/Lowes or did you find stainless? Could you share where from?

Thanks,

T

They are from Lowes. They didn't say they were galvanized, but I figured they could be. Everything in the smoker is stainless except them. I have done a ton of research on it and I am not concerned. My uds doesn't ever go above 250-300 degrees.

They're usually zinc coated.
