Well this past weekend I had my very first comp. There were only 4 competitors including me, but since this was the first time it had been revived from the early 90's and being thought up and scheduled in only 3 months, the promoter was ok with the turn out.

It was only what they call a Rib Burn Off but considering it was my first comp, the stress of 4 meats was lifted from my shoulders. LOL. The rules and judging criteria was very subjective, even though it was a double blind judging.

Now to the results, I came in second, but the tuproar and comments made by several patrons and other vendors (not competitors) was that I www "robbed" LOL.

We were allowed to sell our ribs as well, which I sold out of each day in approx an hour. I even had patrons wanting to buy bottles of my two homemade sauces. I was very blessed to be able to compete and honored by the response and support I was given. I did learn quite a bit, about timing and the stress (yet fun) of competing and all of the competitors were helpful to each other.

I even received 2 requests to cater a family reunion and a birthday party. All and all I believe it was a wonderful blessing even though I came in second, but the benefits of getting my name and BBQ out there is more than a first place. Also the time and help of my wife, was invaluable!

Thank KAM. They were, everyone said they were the more moist, flavorful and prettiest, but it was a popularity contest with the first place team. I'm not badmouthing him in the least, I'm just going off what other patrons said.

I saved them, shrank them, hosted them, and posted them... and they are still too big, so when the forum cycles tonight, I'll put them back at the right size.

So don't freak out and take things down, please!

Sorry for such a heavy hand! Wink

I understand completely! Thank you for your help. Someone else took the pictures other than the one of my ribs and I thought I still had my camera set for reduced size.

Congrats. You are correct. It is all about the timing. Once you get that part down, the rest goes easy (usually). Good luck in your future contests. I am ready to get back out there again. I have only done 6 contests this year.
