A good friend of mine told me about an all you can eat pile
of apple wood about 45 minutes away form home. The people
are taking out an orchard and eventually it will be burned. Shocked

Free wood. I just have to haul it. Call local orchards people!

This is what I found.

Mmm, apple wood! Smile

Thanks guys.

I love living in apple country!

A good friend of mine has access to a large hydraulic dump
bed trailer with high sides. We will get our fill. Smile

Yeah it's nice to find a good pile like this one.

Usually its just a slash pile from them pruning for the year.
Every once in a while you get lucky & hear about an orchard
being taken out.

I have seen people selling a cord of apple wood for $200 Shocked

So yeah, I'm all over this! Very Happy

Hokey smokes! I would give a left somethingorother for some of that. Here in Texas, we clear mesquite orchards. I have "Que'D" Mesquite smoked brisket, Mesquite smoked ribs, Mesquite smoked turkey, Mesquite smoked fish, Mesquite smoked sausage, Mesquite smoked brisket, Mesquite smoked ribs, Mesquite smoked......sigh...Yah, jealous...

Nice score! It's great to be in a region where you can get other peoples cast-offs and think it's gold. I can can get free Pecan or Apple wood, but it's a 2-3 hour drive either way. I'd love to be in the southwest and load up on Mesquite.

Nice score BT.
Getting a load of free apple wood certainly doesn't suck Very Happy

I stop at an orchard near Royal City once a year during duck season and pick up an apple box full of wood for $40. Which I don't mind paying since it lasts me all year, and I've also seen people selling wood for $200 /cord.

$200 a cord is on the low side here. The going rate is $250/cord green $300 seasoned

Awesome score! I've tried that here in Missouri at the apple orchards but they never want to sell it. Sad

Beertooth I'd love to trade you a bucket of white oak, maple, cherry, or hickory for a bucket of apple. Only thing is the shipping would probably kill us.

Just a quick update.... Shocked Mad Sad

I went out to grab some more wood today. I couldn't believe
what I found. Half of the pile that I saw last time is gone!

They started chipping it. Shocked WTF?!?!?!

I am going to have to find a trailer, and quick!!!

The guy that I talked to said that the only reason that the
rest of the pile is there is because the machine broke.

Shocked Shocked Shocked

I asked "So I can come get a few more loads, right?"
"Can I buy you a case of beer?" "

Him "Sure."

Me "What kind?"

Him "Any."

Very Happy
