It is with a heavy heart that I write this post. For today I received a call that my Good Friend and fellow Ring member Mike "Wreckless" Williams passed. Mike was an awesome pit builder and like so many of us freely shared his knowledge for just the love of cooker building. I have placed this post in the Cooker section because I believe this is where Mike would want it.
Rest In Peace Brother I will miss our conversations.
Respectfully,

I was truly saddened to hear the news this morning of Mike's passing. Mike was a great guy that could always dish out as much crap as he was given and do so with a laugh and a smile. Mike was a hell of a fabricator and he was always willing to share any of his experiences or knowledge with anyone who would ask. We shared some laughs via text message just a few days ago, but I talked to him last about 2 weeks ago, and it is now a conversation that I will cherish. I will miss his laugh, his jokes and the occasional "Go F Yourself" when a joke he would try and pull on me would backfire and I would turn it back on him. Mike was my friend, and a damn good one, I will truly miss him.

Man, I am so sorry to hear this. Wreckless was a great inspiration to me while I was building my smoker. I always looked forward to his posts, he was very intelligent, witty and had amazing skills.
God bless you Mike! _________________ 250 Gallon Trailer Build |

This is very sad news indeed. I check this forum every now and again to see if Mike has posted. I spoke with him on the phone several months ago.
I am honored to own one of Mikes pits. I used it just this weekend. I would occasionally text him a pic of his smoker in action and he would always respond by saying it warmed his heart knowing it was being used and appreciated.
Where ever I take Mikes smoker it gets many interested onlookers and praise from folks who know something about fabrication.
I'm very saddened to check into this forum and find this post. KAM please pass along my condolences to the family when you get the opportunity. |

Mike was a great guy and a class act. Grateful I was able to meet him and call him my friend. I found a great photo of when he visited a cook off a few years ago. I sent it to k.a.m. to post it.

I have a few "appropriate" pics with Mike and way more not so appropriate
Big Ron & Wreckless
This might be the only pic I have...or have seen with Mike not in his famous camo shorts.
The Gang
And who remembers the "Twin Pits"
And the pround "builder" of the pits
I can still hear Mike say "that pic better not show up on the Ring m'fer" Good times and great memories. I read through a few of Mike and my text messages the other day and laughed just as much then as when we had the conversation a while back. I miss him, he was a hell of a guy! _________________ X2 Finished Build

Thanks for sharing those pics Trailer Builder. I never met Mike personally but we spoke on the phone long and often while I was in the process of buying one of his pits. And since then a few times. Mike couldn't do enough to help me out in getting things arranged to have the smoker picked up down there and transported back here to Minnesota.
What a great friendship you guys have shared and I'm sure he was a pleasure just to hang out with. I have thought of him much since reading this post. I did 75lbs of pork butts on his pit this weekend and it ran flawlessly as always.
I will try to post some pics of it but I have to figure out how to resize them. |

G Spot BBQ, k.a.m. and myself at one time knew your build better than anyone around. Mike was super proud of one of his builds going somewhere different on the map than just around the Texas area. He wanted that build to be "right on dude" in every possible way it could be. There were many hours of calls and texts with Mike about what if I do this or that. I would always say just build what you build, because your pits are right on dude. He finally gave up on all the thinking on that build and just did what Mike did, knocked out a first class build that I am sure will last you a lifetime. We did at one time talk about a Wreckless, k.a.m. & TrailerBuilder delivery crew to bring the pit your way, but we quickly realized with all the booze and BBQ needed for that drive, both ways, the shipping would easily cost you more than the pit itself! _________________ X2 Finished Build

LMAO!!!
G Spot BBQ, your build is what inspired the coined phrase from Mike "Sometimes you gotta just ignore k.a.m." Mike would call or text with a tech question and I would give him text book answers then it would get quiet on his end and I would hear "whooo!!! ok !!! then on the build the next day it would be Wreckless ingenuity 101 took over. God I miss those talks. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.
