I'm looking to do a lot of welding now, as i'm building 2 monster smokers. I normally use a lot of 7011 or 6011 rods. can I stay with these rods for doing hot rolled? I'm going to building a pair of units out of predominately 11 gauge hot rolled, with a few 1/4 inch plates. is the 1/16 or 3/32 6011 a good call for this? or is there a better rod composition and thickness i need?

6011 is a pretty deep digging rod for sheet metal in my opinion but it can and is done.
6013 running in DCEN would be a good go. This would allow more heat to the rod and take some off the metal.
I weld a lot of sheet metal with 7018 3/32"'s it is my go to rod.
But when I have a lot of sheet metal work specifically I go to the 6013 in a 3/32".
I hope this helps. Very Happy

Thanks, man, I knew you'd pipe up sooner or later. 6013 sounds like my rod. now to find someplace in the Metro that has 50 pound boxes

Get you a 5lb. box and see if you like them before you bust open a 50 lber. Wink They start a little cold and some folks prefer other rods. I like them but I have used them enough to know how to make them work. If you do not like them let me know we can go other routes. Smile
