I went to Sam's Club the day after Labor Day and yep, they had two isles full of holiday trees (I'm being pc), decorations, and gifts. Back when I was a kid we got past a holiday before we started another one. Example; We had Thanksgiving then it was game on for Christmas. Then some marketing genius thought they would edge it up by setting up displays after Halloween. Lately, there seems to be no tempering in their thought process. So now we're going to enjoy a full 1/3 of a year looking at animated reindeer, Santas and other holiday yard art. And don't forget the after holiday sales. Yippeee!!!

I don't like it, but it is our own fault. If we as a society did not get so carried away spending money on the "Holidays", the retail guys would not try to extend them like they do.

I guarantee that if the 4th of July turned into being all about consumerism, and giving gifts, stores would start selling stuff for it on January 1st.

Yep, I was in Costco today and I think I espied some holiday stuff a few aisles over. I was there for a flu shot, so I didn't want to get any more aggravated (I don't like needles) by looking at it. I refuse to even think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I hate this chit where there's X-Mas stuff out before friggin Halloween! Takes the magic out of it IMO.

Many years ago I used to work in retailing Christmas decorations, it turned me totally off the commercial side of Christmas.

The glass and other decorations would start arriving mid to late June and through July and August, we would then wholesale through September and October, then wholesale and retail November and December, we would then take Christmas week to stock take and the first two weeks of January we would go through all the catalogs for the following December, and the 3rd weekend of January we would go to the big commercial sale, and order the next load to start arriving 5 months later.

Total commercialization turned me off that side of the holidays.

Yep, Black Friday is a prime example. I mean people go stark raving nuts that day. Shopping at 3:00 AM, bitch slapping each other over some crap on a table. You won't find me anywhere near a retail store that day, or that weekend for that matter. I'm thinking like SoEzzy... the fun has been taken out of it.

My wife works retail management and I can tell you without a doubt if it wasn't for our boys, we would not even acknowledge Christmas. She starts having meetings in May about holiday pre sales and crap that they need to get prepared for. There is no meaning to the season anymore other than the almighty dollar. Its quite aggravating and a perfect example of what's wrong with this country. The $$$ has everyone blinded to what's real.
