New to the forum, but not new to smoking. I have been smoking on different cookers for around 25 years, including my main large cooker, a Lang Model 60 trailer unit, and my current patio unit, a Char Griller Pro with FB. 14 or years or so ago I used "The Smoke Ring" to research trailer smokers, but I don't recall there being a forum back then. About 9 months ago I started researching for a new patio smoker grill combo to replace my decrepit Char Griller Pro, and in doing so have joined this forum, The BBQ Brethren and Smoking Meat forums for reference material. I had reduced my search down to the Lang 36 Hybrid Patio, the Gator Pits Party Gator and the Lone Star Grillz 24" x 36" (or maybe 24" x 40"). I know you have all seen similar comparisons on here, which I have read: Yoder, Pits by JJ, Meadow Creek, Horizon, Shirley Fabrications and Klose. Well, I have finally found somebody in NC that can actually fabricate an offset FB pipe smoker, and I am hoping to work with him to build what I am looking for. His company is called Cauble's Custom Fabricators, and he is right up the street from me in Salisbury, NC. I hope to pay him a visit next weekend to see if his stuff is as high a quality as Gator Pits and Lone Star Grillz, all based in TX, which would cost close to $500 to ship to NC.

Welcome to the ring kitjBBQman, looking forward to seeing some pics of your cooks. Smile
Good luck with your cooker search I hope the company close to you works out. Does he build cookers or is he just a fabrication shop? There are a lot of great welder/fabricators out there but not all can builder a cooker that works. Wink

Thanks guys. Cauble's Custom Fabrications is definitely a pit builder, but I'm not sure if that is his living. Here is a post from a satisfied customer on another forum.

I would say watch out Lang, Gator Pits, Lonestar Grillz and Klose; there is a new kid on the block. Cauble Custom Fabrications builds some really good quality smoker and cookers. Here are a few pictures of my new build I just picked up Saturday. It only took 15 minutes for this thing to hit 225, and it stayed there so easily with very little wood need to be added, and only about every 90 minutes.
Here are some specs:
24" x 42" cook chamber
24" x 20 " x 20" fire box
5.5" smoke stack
all 1/4 steel
straight flow with tuning plates
charcoal grate in 3/16" ash pan, removable through FB
wood grate in FB made with 1/2" solid steel rods
slide out FB ash tray

And the man that built this beauty, Travis Cauble...
