I hauled my horizontal on its trailer across town to my old boss's house for a reunion BBQ of our old engineering group. Was a lot of fun, especially since my boss is into home-brewing in a big way and I'm into BBQ in a big way! Twas a match made in heaven .. but I digress.

Afterwards an old friend staggered er walked up to me and demanded to know the name of my cooker. I told him that giving my cooker a name had never occurred to me. He seemed to not like my answer and proceeded to tell me how if BB King can name his guitar Lucile, Billy Gibbons can name his guitar Pearly Gates and so on, that I can dang well name my smoker!

Just wondering if any of you guys name your pits. Need some help here ..

Thanks!

My dad, having been stationed in Hawaii for his first post upon getting his wings as a young Marine learned a bit of Hawaiian speak. Upon seeing a rather large build I was doing for a comp team commented that it was " The Big Kahuna". It stuck throughout the build and carried on to the team when they took possession of it. I built a little cooker for my son for while he was on the road and needed his own "Q" We dubbed her "Lil Smoky" and even badged her as such. My ugliest thing this side of hell but fine running, gifted but highly modified shop cooker is aptly named "Frankenstein" So, sure, name your cooker. Possibly like naming your dog, I mean, you don't holler " time to come in Dog" eh? Wink You know your cookers personality by now, find one that fits. I think there is something kinda cool about naming your cooker. " Ol' Burnt Ends"? Cool

They don't have individual names but I do refer to my two 18.5" WSM's as The Twins and all 4 of my WSM's are referred to as The Grillfriends

I named my smoker durring the process of building it. I had it lifted up in the air moving over to the trailer for mounting it. I was pushing it over to the trailer and took a step back and was looking at her and thought that she looked like a Hindenburg air ship, so i named her Helga. But now she is know as the Mistress Helga, because my girlfriend says that i would rather spend time with Helga than with her during the building of her. But she said as long as she stays outside and keeps cooking great BBQ she can stay around.

Thanks Seattlepitboss she looks better now with some paint on it. I just cant wait to start my next smoker but i need to have time to work on it. I have been saving my money for a wedding in a few more weeks so that has taken most of my smoker budget.
