Last Tuesday (Jan 18th) the owner (Travis) instructed me to shut down the website and return the deposit I had taken on a smoker. He told me he would no longer be making smokers.
Since then I have had to turn away a couple of potental buyers, so I thought I would get the word out and let people know to look elsewhere.
Sorry I cannot tell you more, that is all I know.

OkieJay, I am sorry to here this. I hope all is well with Travis and Family. The DP in my opinion is a legend in its own right and yourself and Travis have always helped folks with their builds or questions about cookers purchased. True Gentlemen in my books, I wish y'all the very best.

I sure hate to hear that Travis isn't making pits anymore. Those things cook like a dream. Best of luck to Travis in whatever is going on. _________________ Life's too short to eat dry BBQ! |

No doubt, as others have stated, Travis and his smokers are in a class of their own. You would be hard pressed to find a manufacture willing to help people making copies of their product. More than a few times I saw Travis do that right here. He’s just an all around nice guy. I wish him and his family all the best. If it's what he would like to do, I hope he has a chance to bring his smokers back to the market someday. _________________ Homemade offset smoker 24"x48"

Sorry to hear about Travis. The DP design is unique, functional, and was economical when compared to other smokers. I have been by Travis's shop many times and have always found him working hard making someone's BBQ dreams come true. _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

I certainly hate to hear this news. His design was my inspiration when I built my pit. I have a friend that wanted me to help him find something similar so I referred him to Travis. He struck a deal that made me think twice about ever cranking up my welder again. All the best to Travis and his family. _________________ http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32886 |

In honor of Travis I fired up my DPP inspired clone today. Cooked 3 racks of ribs, 4 chickens, 16 thighs, and 2 boston butts. Nothing like a good bbq in the middle of winter to get you looking forward to spring. _________________ Life's too short to eat dry BBQ! |

What he said.
I hope all is well with Travis and his family, and that he is leaving this because he has found something better (?) to move on to. |

I worked my DPP-70 hard!
I mean real hard! And it just took the abuse and never complained about it.
Summer 2010, I cooked over 10-tons of meat in my DPP-70 for the restaurant. Our totals for the first 4 months are as follows;
10,500 pounds of pork butts
6,000 pounds of Spare ribs
4,000 pounds of Brisket (Choice or higher grade)
Then we have it's catering usage for the last 3 years, I have no totals for that but this last summer in addition to the restaurant needs we did several whole hogs, several hundred pounds of STL's, and a few hundred pounds of Sirloin roast, Smoked bacon slabs, hot-links etc through the DPP.
The only repairs I had to do was the tongue-jack, and I made a more sturdy log-tray in the firebox. Instead of expanded steel, I used 5/8th" bar stock and 1/4" angle iron, plus I raised it off the floor a little more for increased airflow for a hotter burn.
This pit is just as comfortable running at 375F as it is at 225F
I have since upgraded to a pair of Oyler 700's at the restaurant, but the DPP has a full summer scheduled again for catering. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Sad to hear indeed.
Travis built a great pit and was always helpful to others.
Wishing him all the best moving forward in whatever endeavor he chooses. _________________ BBQMAN

I purchased a DPP Fat 50 secondhand from another smokering member. My cooking got better the instant I got this smoker. The DPP Fat 50 truly is an impressive piece of equipment. I wish Travis nothing but the best. _________________ If the momma isn't happy, then no one is happy.

I was wondering what happened. I linked his website to mine and had just gotten a reply back from someone that one of his sites was down. Too bad. I really love my FAT 50. Travis was is a stand-up guy. Anytime there was a problem, he handled it as best as he could. Hopefully, Travis comes back real soon. _________________ Anything worth fighting for is worth fighting for dirty!

Has anyone heard anything new about the DPP? Are they really closed for good? I had been following them for about a year and was hoping to purchase a cooker until I found this out. Is there another company that makes this style smoker that's as good of quality? |

I am considering reopening the shop on a smaller scale. I should have a posting soon. Thinking of keeping it small so I can control quality. If you are interested, please give me a call at 325-650-2943. _________________ SMOKERS THAT WORK!!!
