Suggestions...? Pan underneath it is fine. Size, material. Basket...? Just a flat sheet of expanded steel....? I think I'll need to remove it periodically. Through the top or out the end after the ashpan has been removed...?

Do a search for Chargriller and you will see what a lot of us have done. Most replace the stock firegrate with some sort of basket. I made one up out of expanded metal. that way you get longer burns on one fueling and the ashpan is easier to empty. BTW, I assumed you are talking about the side burner.

A piece of expanded steel cut to fit your firebox works excellent.

The grate they give you sure is a hunk of crap aint it.

I went to a wielder and he wielded some steel that I bought into a grate. Now the grate and fire is working fine.

I rest my grate ontop of the ashpan guides and I have to put it in through the top..
