Hey Guys,

I am in the process of having a custom cabinet smoker built. It has two barn style doors on it. We are having a hard time trying to find a clean, but heavy duty method to use for a door latch. The left door closes first, as it has a lip on it, then the right side closes on top.

There is NOT a middle support, so the latches must grab the top and/or bottom. It is 60" wide, and the doors are about 3' tall.

Here is a pic:

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Pete

I think I would need two, one for the top, and one for the bottom....Not sure one would hold it tight enough closed???

Pete, it looks like you could use a 3-point latch. It's kind of hard to see in this picture but this cabinet is similar to yours with the over lapping door.

Not sure if you need something NSF rated but maybe somebody else can help source one for you. Hope this helps.

Here's a link to a better picture. It's too big to embed here or else the Bear might whack me. http://www.youngssurplus.com/DSCN34815b.JPG

This might be something your fabricators can work up.

This is actually what we are looking at, however, on the 3 point latches I have been able to find (McMaster Carr, etc) the outside handles are all pretty cheasy, and plated, or zinc. I would like a SS handle, or something really nice. This pit is going to be a showcase, and do not want to go cheap on the handle Smile

I agree with the not looking cheesy thing. That cooker is too pretty to skank it up with cheap hardware. I spent a little time searching and came up with this link. See page 3 of the pdf.

UL 4X rated, stainless steel Power Glide handle

I've purchased dozens of Hoffman enclosures over the years and they can probably provide you with the handle. You may have to custom cut the drop rods to fit your cabinet. I don't even want to know how much this costs though. Shocked

I have similar doors on my trailer. I have heavy duty handles for top and bottom of each door. Keeps the doors tight. You can see it in the video in my signature if interested.

Fireman Pete, I was wondering what latch you decided to use and how it worked out. I have similar doors that I am about to hang and was curious.
