The first time I saw one of these, I knew I had to build one.
Well, I finally got around to it. So, here it is
I decided to go with a 3 string for my first build.
The body is an old Romeo y Julieta box I had, and I used maple and Brazilian cherry for the neck and fretboard.
I got the rest of the parts I needed at cbgitty.com
It was a lot of fun to build. And I'll definitely be making more.
Made myself a bottle neck slide too

SWEET! Really nice job. I don't play, but I recognize craftsmanship when I see it. _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

| LMK if you need more boxes for future projects. I've got a pile of cool old cigar boxes in my basement. |

Thanks Bugs. But with only 3 strings, and open tuning, I'm finding that it's a bit easier to learn than a regular 6 string.
Big O, boxes aren't too hard to come by around here, but I'd love to see what you
Thanks CB. I now know that CBGs have been around for a long time, but I just saw one of these for first time around 6 months ago here Chicken Coop Blues and knew right a way I had to build one. YouTube's chocked full of awesome videos of guys playing some killer music with these.

Sweet build! I have everything to build my first one all in a pile. I just need to get off my butt and do it! I want to build a 3 string as my first one then a uke or a dulci-strummer.
I have several cigar boxes and a couple of whisky boxes stuck back but always looking for more. _________________ NEVER TRUST A SKINNY COOK!!!

Thanks blues brother.
Now get off your butt and build yours
So, what's a cigar box guitar without a cigar box amp?
I found some schematics online, ordered my parts, and got to work.
This was a fairly easy and quick project. Only took a weekend to do.
It's basically a 5" speaker, a simple circuit board, and few components all powered by a 9v. battery.
My first attempt at soldering a circuit board. Don't laugh :
The circuit is completed when the cord is plugged in
I was amazed at good this thing sounds. It actually sounds better than my regular amp when paired with my CBG.
I'm definitely addicted to this stuff now. There will be more to come _________________ save the neck for me, Clark - Cousin Eddie |
