Mythbusters just used one as a human analog and shot it with a ping pong ball moving at 1100mph. That's faster than a 9mm handgun (~950mph). Did some damage. _________________ Chris from Uxbridge,MA

Was it MPH or feet per second? Also how did they propel a ping pong ball that fast? Was it air pressure or what. Those thing are awful light to get moving very fast.

I saw that, they shot the ball in a long tube with high pressure air. The pork butt was really close to the end of the tube It looked like most of the damage was done by the air

It was 1100 MPH.
They sealed both ends of a tube and pulled a vacuum. Attached to one end of the tube was a choke, a pressurized cylinder. When they released the pressure, it broke the seal at that end of the tube. The air rushing in propelled the ping pong ball forward and the vacuum meant there was less resistance in front of the ball.
A lot of the damage was done by the air but the ball did penetrated the skin and the flesh beneath, there was a round hole in the skin and they found a chunk of ping pong ball shaped meat. _________________ Chris from Uxbridge,MA

I didn't realize that the MPH and FPS were that close together. I figured the MPH would be a lot faster. Its a 1.0 to 1.4, guess you learn something every day. Good news is I can take the rest of the day off!
