Is it only me but do all thermometers eventually lie to you?
It happens right before they get hit with a hammer. 🙀🐽
I'm sure I mashed the probe wire. A few are on order. _________________ Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Barbecuists from the slow completion of their appointed foods….. |

I've accidentally smashed the probe wires of my Maverick ET-73 in my cooker doors before. Yes, it can be a real pain in the a$$! _________________ "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits" - Albert Einstein

They ALL lie eventually When I noticed the grate temp was lower than the meat temp, I figured something was wrong. Someone on here suggested some electrical shrink-tube at the probe/wire connection to stabilize it. I tried it and so far, so good. Plus I drilled holes in all the cookers to run the wires through. _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

Even in industrial applications, they all eventually lie. If you're lucky, they either peg out upscale (at maximum reading) or downscale (at lowest reading), and this alerts you that the instrument's gone bad.
It's worst when they 'fail last' and just keep reading the same value all the time. Or they lie when commissioning new equipment, just after having been checked out by instrument techs. _________________ Let's hope SoEzzy can ditch his heavy hand on photos in 2016!
