I'm looking at purchasing a second-hand 12' x 12' walk-in cooler with a sliding door instead of a swinging door that has been in a sushi restaurant. I'm going to use the cooler as storage for meat and beer kegs. The cooler appears to be in very good shape.

Does anyone know of any disadvantages of a sliding door cooler versus a swing door cooler?

The biggest problem I've seen is the seal system on sliding doors is not as forgiving or robust over time. A swing door with a proper latch will compress the seal against the door frame insuring a good tight fit. With sliding seals, there is no compression of the seal, so it must remain in good condition to do the job properly. I'd check for any signs of previous condensation around the seal area, or if its operating now, check for any moisture or condensation in the seal area. Is there a raised threshold, or is the bottom sealed from the bottom of the door, this can also be an area where there are seal problems. If the sliding door is in its own frame, then it can seal from both sides of the frame if designed properly. You should also have a good source for replacement seals.
