Does anyone know of sources for pimento wood, the allspice tree? I want to try authentic Jerk-style smoking in Kansas City. This tree/bush only survives in warm zones so we can't grow it in the Midwest.
Thanks, JB |

But the chips are currently on back order as are a few other items. I emailed them to ask when they will be back in stock. I'll update this post when I get news. |

Thanks for the feedback tacklebox 36 bucks is alot for a sack of wood chips, add 4 more bucks and i could get a good sack of sumpthing else and we wouldnt even need to bbq to be smoking:wink: !!!
but to be honest, i really dont care that the 2Lbs sack was 36 bucks, cuz ive been wanting to try cooking some things with the flavor of the allspice smoke for a while now, and its not like the Allspice Tree grows out here in The Great North West! Importing/shipping prices is probably the bulk of the cost anyway!
I didnt take it rong tacklebox, i understand the constructive criticisim over the price for a few wood chips, it would be a bonus if the chips came in the burlap sack as shown in the pic ! I will let you know how much of a fool i was when the food is on the plate and im grubbing ! hopefully it will be worth it! food pics to come as soon as the woodchips get here! _________________ 287Gal RF Project

I've been buying my wood from there for ages. Good seller.
As far as the price, it's simply supply and demand.
After Gary Feblowitz and his wife got married in Jamaica, they became obsessed with figuring out how to replicate authentic jerk flavor. After 10 years of dealing with logistics, legalities, and import/export paperwork, the two started importing pimento wood a couple years ago. In an effort to prevent deforestation, Feblowitz says they import wood only from trees which are more than seven years old, which are no longer bearing fruit and would typically be cut down and disposed of at that time. A few other companies import just the leaves and twigs, but Feblowitz believes he's the only American importer.
If you have a good recipe you're willing to share, I'm always looking to try new jerk.
Here is mine which I worked on for quite some time. http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37176&highlight=jerk+share |
