I'll be getting my smoker in the next few days. Does anyone know of a local source of smoke wood in the Atlanta area (white oak, cherry)? I live close to Piedmont park.
Thanks,

A good place to start might be with a local tree service. They have access to all kinds of wood and most resell. Once you develop a good relationship with a tree guy, you might be able to swap out bbq for wood. _________________ Mike

| I found an Orchard and stopped on day to talk to the Owner and made a deal for wood from the trees he was cutting down.. So far I have been able to get a cord of apple, 3/4 cord of sugar maple, and 1/2 cord of wild cherry.....He is also going to get me a cord of Hickory in the spring... |

What i like to do i drive around the neighbor hood or around town and count fruit tree`s and mark the local, then in the eary spring or late fall go back and see if they are trimming or cutting down any of the tree`s and offer to haul it away for free. After a storm with high winds is also a good time to travel around town with a bow saw or chain saw and help clean up trees. Get a lot of wood that way, a little work but its free wood, the best kind.
My city has crab apple (which is also good for smokin) trees planted aroung in parks and on center deviders around town if i get the chance to catch them trimming i stop and offer to haul it away also.
Ofcourse you`ll have to wait for the wood to season(6months - 1year) but this is also a good sourse for future wood supplies.
Work for me.. |

You should also try pecan, as it is in your area I think. I got a pickup
load from an orchard that my neighbor brought back for me after a Christmas trip to GA. Good flavor, I like it better that hickory.
Recently I used pecan and apple together for the first time and won
a small bbq contest with it. _________________ Columbus IN, home of the other "Smoke"

| +1 for the pecan. You should be able to find plenty of it locally. |

What type of smoker are you getting?
If you just need wood chunks then just try BBQ galore or Home Depot.
If you know someone in the restaurant biz then they can probably order you some through US foods or whoever they use... |
