My GFS salesman told me to expect chicken prices to go thru the roof soon. Due to the shortage scare that didnt occur last fall, many places nation wide took wings and other chicken items off their menu's, making a overstock issue which is currently making prices low [ I just paid under $1.50 for jumbo wings] - but production [ raising birds] went down too because demand did - hence, he say's we should expect a dramatic price increase this summer Especially pre portioned breasts etc.....Just a heads up - though they could be wrong!! _________________ Money Maker

Yup, last week my Sysco rep played me the voice alert that he got from regional that bird is going up considerably.
WTF else is new?, holidays/summer comes along, we get hosed on pricing!
I'm glad bird is not our big seller, _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Smaller flocks due to the high cost of corn is another reason. It's going to hit chicken first, because it has the fastest pace of maturity. In about a year it will trickle up to pork, which matures at a year and then beef (although because of the drought, we're seeing record beef prices at slaughter, but because of the import bans in Russia and China, it hasn't trickled down to the consumer level just yet).
Doesn't help restaurants much, but as a consumer, it's time to fill that freezer. |

6 months ago $1.49 was about the norm. Today that is the sale price and $2 is the norm, and going to go higher I am afraid. I can get them for $1.42 at RD, but quality suffers and I am buying a lot more fat. _________________ Pitmaster@ All About The Q
