You guys all have awesome gardens.......I had a really good pepper season considering the slow start with the warm weather......just wish our growing season was about a month longer. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

Nice! I'm going to pick some turnips and mustard greens tonight. They're growing like crazy.
EDIT - Didn't pick any more mustard, but plucked a few turnips for a big ol pot of greens tonight -
I picked all the ones from the small turnip patch at the bottom of the garden. For this, I'm more concerned about the tops than the bottoms. Gonna be GOOD tonight! _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

I would gladly thin that planting. I miss my two furry boys. One black and one orange. _________________ 22.5 Weber Kettle

This damn 'Polar Vortex' chit killed some of my greens this week . Got down to 4 degrees Monday night and didn't get above freezing until Wednesday afternoon. All the lettuces, Mustard Greens, Turnips, Radishes, Swiss Chard and Beets froze solid and got kilt . Managed to get a few Turnips -
The soft stuff dead -
Collards, Brussel Sprouts, and Kohlrabi still OK although a bit cold burned -
Glad I pulled most of the Turnips, Radishes, and Mustard greens last week or I'd be pissed . I'm thinking about grilling/roasting the Turnips tonight. I dunno yet. _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

I learned some things about Turnips last night - They are really good raw, when very fresh (the ones at the store have been stored for a while, so not as good). Very similar taste to Radishes, which I love. The younger ones (before they get the purple on them) have a much more pronounced pepper flavor and the older ones (purple top) have a more mellow, sweet flavor to them. They are in the same 'class' (for lack of a better term, I'm no scientist) as Radishes, Cabbage, and Horseradish. Sliced some up and salted them as a side dish last night. Very tasty. I usually just grow the Turnips for the greens, but now I'm re-thinking my approach a bit. Found a recipe for Turnip fries and that's what I'm going to try tonight. I was never a fan of Turnips (except for the greens)when I was younger. Now that I've gotten older I'm really liking the taste of them. Fresh out of the garden beats store bought (and stored for god knows how long) hands down. I'm glad the wife likes them too! _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

cut them up, toss with evoo and roast in the oven. Mix with parsnip and butternut squash done the same way. Real good.
The weather knocked out a couple of my artichokes but not much else.
small harvest from today:

PB fail. Sorry.
Interesting though, everything in my PB account is set to only upload at 650x480 yet it is not doing that obviously. I just got a new phone and don't know if that some how threw things off, but even after double checking the settings in PB and trying a different pic, it is still uploading larger than it should. _________________ 22.5 Weber Kettle

My PB account did that to me too, a couple of months ago, for no apparent reason.
Those Brussel Sprouts look awesome!!! Ours are doing good, but not nearly as many buds on the stems as yours. And the Broccoli and Kale (?) looks great as well.
Good suggestion about the Turnips, gonna do that as well. I really like roasted root veggies. Getting ready to make some slaw with some of these Turnips. I'm using them instead of cabbage (I usually use Radishes, but the wife wants to try this) for chili-cheese-slaw-dogs tomorrow. _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

I am real pleased with the production on this go round with the Brussels. Last time I tried them I did not get anything. Apparently starting early helps. I planted them in September and fed them fish emulsion every couple of weeks. _________________ 22.5 Weber Kettle

Planted my spring garden a couple days ago. Not to much this go round. No expansion.
Tomatoes, hot peppers, sweet peppers, eggplant, and a watermelon.
I'll get pics up in a few days. _________________ 22.5 Weber Kettle

I'm going to wait a couple more weeks before I put anything in the ground. I did get out this weekend and did some gardening prep work. Picked the rest of the Brussel Sprouts and some more Collards. Made a big ol mess of greens last night! Pulled/burned weeds, flipped the compost pile, and just general clean-up/organization. Got a few plants started in my 'grow room' in the basement. I'm READY _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)

Just planted tomato and pepper seeds today. Got a late start. Hope not too late.
Do you folks shut off the heating mat once they all sprout or do you keep it going for a while? _________________ Pat

The Strawberries are blooming now!!!
This has been a very productive patch and it's only 4 years old. I got a few plants from my neighbor (a retired Dept of Natural Resources agent), who got them from a farmer in middle Georgia, in 2010. They spread like crazy and produce a sh!tload of berries. I can taste the jam and shortcake now! _________________ The Matt Ryan of LIARS! (#2)
