My wife and I were at our bank (Woodforest National Bank) today and noticed several signs taped all across the tellers sections and a BIG colored sign in the lobby advertizing.."Get ready for your July 4th BBQ" The signs go on to read.." Order your 12lb-pre-seasoned-heat & eat Brisket today!!!
Only $45.00
Now I assume this is 12lb AFTER cooking but goodness sake, that is only $4.00 per pound.
The bank is selling them for a fundraiser (foundation) and the "net" proceeds go toward that.
My question is, @ $4.00 a pound retail, what do you suppose the guy (company) providing the briskets is making??
The reason I posted this in the commercial section is the idea got me to thinking...those that are looking to help ofset some costs, this might be a good way..I am sure you would charge more than the $4.00 a pound but still not a bad idea.
And if not briskets, maybe ribs or butts or something else. But if you could get in with a place like that (busy, this bank has multiple branches...even in a lot of WM's) you might be able to make some good money.
The best part of it is, everything is PRE-ORDERED!! _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

Probably nothing, when we do charity stuff like this, the providers are also donating, as we do. It's very good business from the standpoint of free advertising, as that's usually also donated, so you get your name spread around from larger advertising campaigns, and media coverage. _________________ Rod |

That is all well and good and is something I had done many a time when I own my catering business but...when I was donating my product/services, I insisted that my company name be including in any/all advertising.
Most of the time I didn't even have to ask because my company reputation was such that people WANTED to use my company name to help boost their event sales.
But in the case of the bank selling brisket, there is no mention of where the briskets are coming from. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

The best part of it is, everything is PRE-ORDERED!! | Up here in Oregon the local grocery stores set up grills and sell baby backs @ $10 a rack during the summer. The ribs are parboiled, finished on the grill with sauce & the meat is not the highest quality. Perhaps something similar is being done with the briskets (although I'd think the bank would have a riot with parboiled brisket in TX). _________________ Greg |
