Been looking for an offset stick burner and for now have been liking the offsets from Yoder and Lone Star Grillz. Does any one have any experience with either of these brands? I live in northern Minnesota so there are no pit builders up here and the closest is 700 miles so I am going by customer referals. From what I have found so far the prices are very comparable when you consider the shipping costs to my location.

NorthernMN, either one are nice cookers. Another company you might want to consider is Pitts by JJ in Houston. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

I will definatly check them out. What experience do you have with them? The biggest issue for me is buying site unseen and just wondering how temp management is with each smoker.

Not to throw a wrench into your plans but if you have to have a smoker shipped anyway check out the stickys section. Theres a list of builders from all over the country and most will ship. Another advantage is most offer different options you may not realize you want til you see them and most will customize for you. I'm actually saving my nickels right now for one,if life would let me, and have studied them down to a Lang or a Diamond Plate Pit now that their back up and running. Jut my .02 for what its worth.

NorthernMN, Big Ron had a 24" x 48" and loved it. Jose will build anything you want and is very competitive in pricing. I have seen Rons in action as well as taste the results, Jose builds nice cookers.
I hope this helps. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

There are tons of pit builders that you can look into. If you want to see a bunch of different pits in one place look up a competition and check it out. You'll see about every style of pit imaginable at a comp. There's one in Huron, SD the 1st weekend of June and another in Watertown SD the middle part of July. Those may be the closest to you. Most people are more than happy to talk about their smoker and BBQ to someone equally as addicted to Q! _________________ Big Blown Stump Clone

I will check the list out, its been interesting so far seeing how some brands have certain features that I like but are missing other features. I may have to look into custom features to get the best of them all.

Most pit builders will do whatever you like for an additional price. _________________ Big Blown Stump Clone

NorthernMn, I also am from Northern Mn and went through the same thing you are now last year. No builders up here for stick burners. I bought a custom trailer rig from a fabricator on this board. He goes by Wreckless. Couldn't be happier. Lots of custom features I was looking for and a super fine running pit.
I also looked very closely at Lone Starz Grills and was very impressed with his stuff. Although his propane assisted fire starters do not have the safety features. But I just start my sticks with a chimney full of charcoal anyhow. But Chris there will build you whatever you want.
My best advice is to think through what you are going to use the pit for and what features are a must have. For me I wanted as many features built onto the trailer pit as possible. I didn't want to hook up to my pit and then spend a hour loading other stuff into the truck.
My pit has a built on prep table and storage underneath that for steam table pans, and all the misc. stuff you need on a cook.
Two built on propane burners for doing fish frys or steaming sweet corn or crab boils. A large wood storage bin. It even has enough space to store and strap down 3 coolers on the trailer. In other words this trailer is very self contained and I appreciate it more every time I use it.
Feel free to send me a pm and I can give you my phone number. I can probably save you some time and money from my learning experience. |
