Yep new here been away from smoking for awhile just been to busy with work and crap. got the fire rollin again after the last year or so my off road club kinda made me there official cooker dude i guess if that's what you want to call it. we hold 2 off road events a year and we cook 100 to about 120 pounds of pork loin feeding about 100 or so people. Lots of fun thats for sure.

Been using a borrowed oil drum cooker love the way it cooks. So my plan is to build one like it some time soon. well that's been the plan for the last year or so. well any way i also have a reverse flow oil drum cooker that I want to build it was giving to me and i think it would be great to make it in to a whole hog cooker or that's the plan any way. so that is why i joined up here just see whats what and see if i can find any help on making this reverse flow cooker.

there are so many amazing builds on here i am not looking to build some thing like most of your guys build wow i dont have the skill set for that but maybe one day.

well thats me so i will post some pics of my loins and stuff if i can find them i just hope the size of the pics are right.

my oil drum cooker that i want to build in to a reverse flow

some loins

Welcome to the ring Rokhound, looking forward to seeing some more pics of your cooks and following your cooker projects. Smile
Your re-hab project looks like it should be easy enough to convert, some pics of the firebox to cooking chamber hole would be nice and overall dimensions of cooking chamber and firebox.

Thanks I will have to get those specs for u guys I no it is a huge fire box for what I have. but it came this way so I am going to try and make it work. When I got it had a huge hole already cut in the one end so I covered it up and added a flap to control the heat. My biggest question is where do I put the baffle plate how much of a gap at the one end do I need and the how far should my cooking grate be from my baffle plate.

I can answer your question better if I can see the inside of the cooker. Also what is the distance from the top of the grate to the top of the firebox opening?

Rokhound welcome to the ring. The plate is usually a continuation of the top of the firebox...in your case you may need a deflector if your box is to high. 6" is a comfortable from plate to grate. You should post this in cookers you will get more help there.

Rokhound,
Without seeing pics you can work from this.
As Maniac mentioned the top of the R/F plate should be an extension of the top of the firebox in my opinion, this keeps the heat/smoke moving freely. If the top of the firebox is between 1" and 5" to the top of the cooking grate no deflector should be needed.
1.)My biggest question is where do I put the baffle plate how much of a gap at the one end do I need?
The opening opposite the firebox should be at least as large as your recommended firebox to cooking chamber opening.

2.) How far should my cooking grate be from my baffle plate?
The distance between the top of your lowest cooking grate and the R/F plate can be anywhere from 1" to 5" in my opinion. Any farther and the efficiency of the needed radiant heat is lost in my opinion.
I hope this helps. Very Happy
