I knew I had been a long time on-again-off-again lurker, but didn't realize I registered way back in '05!! Lurking got me where I am today, and I thought it was about time to give back. Took me a couple years to really get into Q'ing and when I did, I settled on an entry level Chargriller SFB found at a garage sale and that got me hooked on burning sticks. Today, that Chargriller is long gone, and still on an entry level SFB with one difference: Now instead of cooking good Q I am cooking awsome Q. So awesome in fact, along with my wife, we are a registerd KCBS and CBBQA comp team gearing up to do our first appearance later this year (if you don't count cooking at the CBBQA QFest). Currently I spend time on weekends when I can building a small trailer mounted stick burner, nothing fancy, bit it will get the job done. It's the cook, not the cooker, right? With the exception of our Chicken marinade, all our rubs and sauces are made in house from scratch with recipes I have developed after studying what other people are doing. While we are not yet competing, you can find one or both of us at pretty much any So. Cal comp either volunteering in the judges tent (both of us getting our CBJ in March), helping a team out somewhere, or assisting the event organizers. For me, the draw to comp is not just about cooking good food and maybe getting a call, it's about giving back to the community and helping support the charitable causes the proceeds go to. Our team name may be "All About The Q" but it is about so much more than that.

Anyway, thats my intro. If your in So. Cal and wat to get together and talk Q just give me a shout. I am more than willing to help a newbie, or listen and learn from an old hand.

Hey There Midnight. I'm a total newb, don't even have a cooker, I'm in Huntington Beach - Where in SoCal do you hail from? I've been to a couple of Competitions to taste the wide varieties of BBQ. I have not really found any places in SoCal in my opinion that really bring the flavor - Got any good ones around that you recommend? Anyway, wanted to say hi from SoCal.

Inland Empire, out by Lake Perris. Have you tried Brazen down in SD? Got Shorty's Ribfest coming up this Saturday out past Palm Springs, and a comp at Santa Anita 3-16. For more comps out here visit kcbs.us/events.
