Well Tony I got the After Burner from Ed two weeks ago great looking unit might I add. I now waiting from a friend to hand over the 30 gal steel drum that I will use to house the gas burner unit and water pan. Plus I still need to drill the 4 inches holes for my three bottom vents and smoke stack. I spent this weekend spraying the inside of the barrel with water to close up the staves, was starting to see daylight. I did add a stainless band around the inside where the barrel is hinged using stainless screws. I hope to reduce the honey due list this week so I can start working on the smoker again. Thanks for asking, Happy New Year to you too. _________________ Even bad BBQ is someone's favorite |

BBQjunkie:
Cool! !
Although the staves will swell as they are wetted,What do you think might happen when the interior of the barrel reaches cooking temp?
I think I might concentrate on sealing the barrel stave spaces from the outside with a sealant ...Consider an Automotive R.T.V. High Temp Silicone Gasket Sealant,Available from most Auto Supply Centers.
I would let the barrel dry out...perhaps introduce the Afterburner for some time so as to let the staves dry and contract, then apply the R.T.V. and let it cure according to the manufacturers' directions.
Sumpin' 'ta think about, I guess.
So...Let's git 'er goin', Charlie!
Best Regards, Tony |
