I was on my way out to Laurinberg and 10 minutes from my house going east on 74 I passed a sign that one was opening up soon.
Anyone ever been to one of his places? It will be interesting to go try it out when the open. _________________ Alex

I used to work in Decatur Alabama the home of Big Bob Gobsons. It was before my Q'n interest was lit. I had some of their food via take out, but never even went in the place. The one thing I had that was real good was their huge stuffed potato. It was a large baked tater with a large pile of chopped pork and every other topping you could want... Awwwww Yeahhhhh
I forgot to ask.....where is this restaurant going to be? _________________ Electricity can be dangerous. My nephew tried to stick a penny into a plug. Whoever said a penny doesn't go far didn't see him shoot across that floor. I told him he was grounded. - Tim Allen |

As in any business, what they serve in their restaurant, does not remotely reflect what they win so often with. I take nothing away from them as that is the nature of the beast.
Their sauces are quite good. I think the expectations are extremely high when you eat at their places and it is very difficult for mass produced Q to meet them. _________________ Memories of past exploits: |

L&H, I agree with ya. I will go in with an open mind and see how it is. I was emailing with Chris Lilly yesterday and he said he will be at this store for the first 2 weeks, and it should open around March 1st. _________________ Alex

There's a 50/50 chance that it'll be good. Big Bobs place in Decatur is GREAT !!! There has been several of his family members that have opened stores here in Huntsville, Al......about 20 miles from the original..... and used the "GIBSON'S" name and it was not nearly as good as the original.
Hopefully it will be good and you'll have a great place to eat |

I tried the one in Decatur and was very very dissapointed. I had heard so much about it and thought it generaly has little to NO flavour. I will try it again the next time I am up that way. Maybe the cook just had a bad day. _________________ sales@smokeyjcafe.com |

| I had heard a lot about the original in Decatur and when we went, we were also very disappointed for the same reason. No taste, bad texture, mediocre sauce, and poor service. I won't waste the money again. Sure hope out of towner's don't get the impression that they represent what Alabama BBQ is supposed to be! |

I've been to the BBG in Monroe, NC and it's about the same as far as the food, I would not bother going back. With the health department and EPA restrictions that restaurants are under they really just can't produce anything much above oven roasted pork and it should not be called BBQ. We the caterers and back-yard cookers are the only place a person can find real barbeque anymore. |

I ate at one of the Decatur locations twice in December. I didn't much care for the pulled pork, but the ribs were very good. _________________ large Big Green Egg
