I used to think that the bbq around here was great. Then I went and built a pit and started smoking my own. Now I can't even find a bbq joint that is
close to what i make. Now I am not an expert and i reallize that cooking in large quantities means less attention to individual meats . However it seems to me that as long as they get a smoke flavor, they pay no mind to the fact that it is dry cardboard. Thanks for letting me rant. needed to vent. _________________ Slow down we're in a hurry.

I couldn't agree more. I remember great joints when I was a kid, now I can't find anything I would feel good feeding my dog. Maybe that's a little harsh, but not terribly so.
Where are you at? I live in Gwinnett County and I have been all over trying to find good stuff. Here's my list of the best and worst in Metro Atlanta:
Best
What you get in anybody's backyard (self explanatory)
Pig 'n Chick - good BBQ, great sauces
Dusty's - Very good pork, passable brunswick stew, great touch with the pork rind with each meal
Worst
Harolds - Does longevity make a legend? Why do people go to this place and how are they possibly taking such a fatty, moist meat and making it dry? _________________ I likes to eat 'da pig!

I'll have to give them a shot. Has anybody eaten at Poole's (the Pig Hill of Fame place)? I was going to go the last time I was there, but I didn't get the chance. _________________ I likes to eat 'da pig!

Back at 'cha BBQ Man! I'll have to check out the place in Cherry Log (nice location).
I miss the days of the old places that were run by people with a steady job during the week and ran a BBQ Joint on Thurs, Fri and Sat. The buy in costs now are usually just too high to make this feasible. Great tip! _________________ I likes to eat 'da pig!

I have never been to Dusty's, I will have to check it out. I have been to a place in Woodstock, called Beetle's. It is actually really good, but I am with you broncstomper, I have not been able to find anything that is as good as mine.
I also agree about Harold's, maybe it was good back when they opened. It may be one of those things, where the person that did it right assed away, and another person, thought they could do it just as well. It is amazing at how money will get you a great review in the paper.

Hey man, you gotta hop in the truck and get to Gray, GA. Old Clinton is the gold standard. Just MO, but I think they've nailed it. Like 50 years ago. Also, Fresh-Air in Jackson.
Put some Merle Haggard in the tapedeck and set sail. |

Have driven by Old Clinton 110 times at least, but never stopped,
guess I'll have to next trip to Macon. As a kid, my family would drive from Macon to Lake Sinclair, I still visit relatives on occasion. Fincher's was the q my parents liked.(mom knew them) |
